Daelim announced that it has started to operate the Safety Experience School in full swing by opening the school on January 21. Completed within 17 months of commencing its construction in May 2018, the school is located within the site of the Daelim Education and Research Institute in Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, Gyonggi Province, with 2 stories and total floor area of 1,173.5㎡. Pilot operation has been carried out since last month. Daelim started safety education for the Daelim Group’s new employees.
The Safety Experience School consists of 19 educational and experiencing facilities. Trainees can experience various temporary structures and equipment used in construction sites. The school is equipped with large equipment including excavators and cranes. In particular, facilities with which trainees can vividly experience high place work through VR equipment catch one’s eye. Daelim made VR contents through which trainees can experience the top five riskiest works in construction sites: high place work, heavy stuff lifting work, excavating work, electrical work, and fire extinguishing work. The trainees can improve their capabilities to cope with a crisis through activities aimed at removing the risk factors by themselves in crisis situations.

In addition, trainees can experience various falling and tripping situations that may occur in construction sites. They can practice how to wear the descending life line and safety belt. They can also experience firefighting by reenacting a fire accident as well as how to escape obstacles in a situation wherein vision is obstructed by thick smoke and power failure. In addition, a sealed space work experience was prepared to prevent choking accidents occurring in the construction sites. The trainees can practice how to carry out rescue in case of a choking accident in sealed underground space by team and get to be evaluated.

Daelim plans to expand the training subjects gradually to on-site construction managers and head office employees and executives in addition to safety/health managers, starting with new employees in 2019. Aside from Daelim and affiliates’ employees, each construction site partner firm’s employees will participate in the training. Daelim plans to carry out education/training for 2,500 people in 82 sessions annually. The Safety Experience School is planned to be open to students and general public so that it can be a space for citizens to improve their ability to cope with accidents and nurture safety awareness.
“We have opened a Safety Experience School to have trainees experience emergency situations and practice measures to cope with such situations, veering away from the existing theory-focused education. We will endeavor to establish a safety culture wherein the entire Daelim Group and partner firms’ employees recognize risks in advance and execute systematized safety activities,” said Daelim Safety and Quality Office’s Managing Director Pi Gwang-hee.
