The First Synchronizing and Unveiling Ceremony for Naming Upper Dam of Yecheon Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Station




On July 22, Daelim Industrial’s plant business division and civil works division held a ceremony for synchronizing and unveiling the name of upper dam at Yecheon Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Station. More than 200 people including Yoon Kim, president of plant business division, Kyung-Soo Han, managing director of plant business division, Jin-Woo Eum, managing director of civil works division, Jong-Shin Kim, president of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and residents attended the ceremony to celebrate events.

This day, plant business division started the synchronizing in commemoration of the first generation of electricity from the first power generator at Yecheon Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Station. Civil works division also named the upper dam “Eorim Lake” in commemoration of its completion and held a ceremony to unveil the monument.

The construction site of Yecheon Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Station is located in areas of Hari-myeon and Yongmun-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which comprises of the construction site of power station and the establishment site of the first and second power generators. Daelim is constructing upper and lower dams, a underground powerhouse and a waterway tunnel. The length of waterway tunnel reaches 6 kilo meters, of which the vertical tunnel with the depth of 530 meters demonstrates the longest distance in the nation. Also, two 400,000kW power generators under the construction boast the largest capacity among the domestic pumped storage hydroelectric power stations. This project is scheduled to complete at the end of this year.

* Origin of Eorim Lake: The term “Eorim” came from the personal visit of Wang Geon, the first king of Korean dynasty. He had visited a castle in Yongmun-myeon, where the upper dam is located today, when he had fought against Gyeon Hweon of Later Baekje.
