- Commercialized the real-time meter' for the first time in Korea - all incoming concrete can be inspected
- Application to all sites aims to achieve seamless quality control and ‘zero blind spot in terms of safety and quality’.

DL E&C announced on the 14th that it has developed a ‘real-time unit water meter’ that can measure the unit water of on-site concrete in real time for the first time in Korea, and is applying it to all sites. When using this technology, it is possible to inspect all concrete brought in the site, and block the root cause of quality problems.

Unit water content refers to the amount of water contained in 1m3of unhardened concrete. The unit water content test is a procedure to check whether the amount of water meets the specified standards when manufacturing concrete. It is an essential test to ensure quality as the strength and durability of concrete cannot be guaranteed if it contains more water than the amount of water applied to the concrete mix design.

According to KSC (Korea Construction Specification) for concrete work, the unit water content test must be conducted for every 120m3 of concrete delivered to the site. This takes into account the conditions of the construction site where it is difficult to inspect every batch of concrete. In such case, this approach has limitations as it may not be possible to determine the unit water content for some concrete.

To address this, DL E&C developed a meter that can check the unit water content in real time to ensure the quality of all concrete used on site. In order to measure the unit water content in real time, it devised a method of introducing equipment using microwave technology in the process that concrete is being pumped into the pump car, without taking concrete samples one by one.

The real-time measurement values are transmitted to a quality control server, and can be immediately checked via mobile devices on site. If the unit water content does not meet the standards, immediate action can be taken on site. It is possible to reduce manpower and tome required, and to effectively improve quality as well as to block the root cause of concrete quality problems.

This technology is evaluated as the only technology in Korea that can check the quality of all concrete brought in the site, using the measurement method reflected in KSC for concrete work. the validity of this technology has already been proven by the manufacturer of microwave equipment that is reflected in the standards of Korean Concrete Institute.

An official from DL E&C said, “We developed the technology for real-time unit water content measurement last year, and verified it on-site for several months, and then introduced it to all sites. We will achieve ‘zero blind spot in terms of safety and quality of building based on our own differentiated quality control system.”
