The Seonam Sewage Heating BOT site completed the district heating supply facilities using the heat generated from Seonam Sewage Treatment Plant on November 29, after 18 months of construction. Daelim Executive Director Park Sung-yun, Technical Expert Yun Bong-gil, and Seoul City Climate and Environment Division Chief Hwang Bo-yeon attended the completion ceremony held at Seonam Environmental Technology.

The facilities produce district heat for the heating of 24,000 households annually using potential heat generated from processed sewage discharged to Han River. The facilities generate effects such as 4,975 TOE (unit converting into oil’s heating value based on all energy sources’ heating values) replacement of LNG fossil fuel and 15,527-ton reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equivalent to planting 110,000 pine trees. The facilities are deeply meaningful as the first accomplishment in the blue ocean market using the potential heat from processed sewage, whose use has been minimal so far.
