Daelim Awarded Contract to Build Indonesia’s Karian Multipurpose Dam

Daelim announced on June 17, 2015 that it was awarded a contract to build Indonesia’s Karian Multipurpose Dam. This project is performed with EDCF (Economic Development Cooperation Fund) supported by the Korean government for the Indonesian government. Daelim will carry out the project together with Wijaya Karya and Waskita Karya, Indonesia’s state construction companies.

Karian Multipurpose Dam is a project ordered by the Indonesian government to solve the water shortage problem caused by rapid urbanization and prevent damages due to flood and drought. Its construction site is located on the tributary of Ciujung River, 70kw southwest of Jakarta. The dam’s size will be 516m wide and 63m high, and it can store up to 300 million tons of water. Its construction period is 48 months, and the project is expected to supply agricultural, municipal, and industrial water stably to the capital city of Jakarta and neighboring areas once the dam is completed.

Daelim is entering the Indonesian market 18 years after it won the Tuban naphtha cracking plant project in 1997. It has become the dominant player in the overseas civil engineering markets, winning three consecutive civil engineering projects— Brunei Sea Bridge, Singaporean Port, and Indonesia’s Karian Dam — in the first half of this year.
