Sliding Center Groundbreaking Ceremony for Pyeonchang Winter Olympics Held

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Sliding Center – where bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge games will be held in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics – was held in Alpensia Resort in Daegwanryeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon on March 4, 2014. Some heads of the relevant organizations, institutions, and agencies including Gangwon Provincial Governor Choi Moon-soon and Daelim President Kim Dong-su attended the ceremony.

The Sliding Center will be constructed by Daelim for the first time in Korea, and only 16 sliding centers exist worldwide. The center will consist of 7 buildings including 2,018m-long track and start and finish houses on a 177,000㎡ site. The indoor start practice place and game track will be completed at the end of 2015, and the remaining facilities are slated to be finished at the end of 2016 considering the schedules for fostering and training Korean athletes.
