Noise Barrier Installation Technology of Daelim Technology Development Institute
Designated as New Traffic Technology

The noise barrier installation technology using RPS (Release Prevention Set) developed by the Daelim Technology Development Institute’s Special Bridge Team was selected as new traffic technology by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport on November 22, 2013. This technology was acknowledged as an excellent technology after it was applied to the urgent maintenance/reinforcement of noise barrier between Konkuk University and Gui Stations ordered by Seoul Metro.

The technology was developed to prevent collapse and damage of noise barrier caused by the release of bolts and nuts. The current noise barrier – for which soundproofing panels were fixed using spring clips, bolts, and nuts – often gets damaged or collapses due to typhoon or gale. To prevent such problem, the Special Bridge Team controlled the release by inserting a saw tooth-shaped fixing part between a bolt and a nut. By applying the new technology, damage to the soundproofing panel can be prevented; the panel’s regular inspection cycle can also be extended. Through the technology, about 7% of maintenance/repair cost is expected to be saved.
