National Sejong Library Completed

Daelim received on Friday, June 28, a completion notice from its client, the Construction Authority of Administrative City, with regard to the construction of the National Sejong Library, a new landmark of Sejong Special Autonomous City. As a branch of the National Library of Korea located in Seocho-dong, Seoul, the library is the first national library built in the provincial area. The Sejong Library is located at 1-5 Living Zone of Sejong City (San 114, Eojin-dong, Sejong City), with total floor area of 21,077m2 and 2 floors underground and 4 floors aboveground.

The National Sejong Library is noted for its peculiar design with the book motif as basis. Designed with a concept of emotional library, the library is shaped like the pages of a book smoothly coming down from the air. The rising image of both sides of the building into the sky fascinates people. The front and back of the building have been finished with glass; thus maximizing visual openness.

The library is also attracting attention as an eco-friendly, low energy-using building aside from its unique appearance. Solar photovoltaic energy, solar heat energy, and geothermal energy supply 30% of the total energy consumption of the building. In particular, heating and cooling of the library are conducted using geothermal energy, and warm water used indoors is procured using solar heat energy only. Moreover, no-obstacle design has been adopted by removing the height difference or threshold so that elderly people and disabled people can conveniently use the library.
