Daelim Wins Bridge Construction Project in Brunei; First-Ever Korean Company to do so
Daelim won the KRW 123.3 billion project to build the Sungai Brunei Bridge ordered by the Brunei government. With stake of 67% (KRW 82.6 billion), Daelim will assume responsibility from design to construction. Together with the cable-stayed bridge, Daelim will expand the existing road measuring about 2km and two interchanges. The bridge will be the largest-scale project of building a single bridge in Brunei, and the construction duration is 36 months.
The bridge will be built across Brunei River penetrating Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital. It will promote the development of the southern part of Brunei and local economic activation by connecting the Kampong Sungai Kebun area with the Jalan area, which is divided by Brunei River.
The Sungai Brunei Bridge is 607m long; the distance between bridge piers is 300m. It will be a four-lane, cable-stayed bridge with only one tower, which will be constructed with concrete and will be 161m high. The bridge has been designed as a reflection of the Muslim culture. The tower resembles a Muslim temple’s traditional dome, and the Muslim praying room is planned to be built on the first floor of the tower. The bridge is expected to become a landmark representing Brunei with its unique design and size.
