- 'Incentives' for identifying risks in advance - The safety report system shows significant effect in preventing industrial accidents.
- Emphasizing ‘voluntary participation’ beyond declarative meaning – improved system for greater convenience

DL E&C announced on the 9th that it will introduce ‘D-Safe Coin’ system so that workers can immediately feel rewarded for their safety activities. This system aims to establish a safety culture and motivate workers.

D-Safety Coin is an in-house incentive system that awards up to 5,000 points per day to on-site workers who make safety-related reports or suggest improvements. 1 D-Safe Coin point is equal to KRW1. Points can be converted into KakaoPay money, which can be used like cash at shopping malls, cafés or convenience stores.

D-Safe Coin is based on the philosophy of safety management that ‘Workers know best about on-site risks’. DL E&C introduced the ‘Safety Report System’ in 2020 where workers could report or suggest risk factors at site. DL E&C analyzed over 12,000 reports received in the first half of this year and utilized the results to improve the working environment. Through this, DL E&C confirmed that the more safety activities of workers increase, the less safety accidents decrease. The number of injury-related accidents in the first half of this year (from January to June) dropped by 40%, compared to the same period last year.

Notice of implementing ‘D-Safety Coin’ system

DL E&C plans to further increase workers’ participation in safety activities using D-Safe Coin, as well as, to upgrade on-site safety management, expanding the actual use of right to stop work. The Company aims to systematically overcome the psychological barrier of workers, such as fears of being disadvantaged for refusing work. As a result of conducting a promotional event for ‘Safety Report System’ in May, it was confirmed that the participation rate increased. During this period, a total of 3,730 reports was posted, demonstrating the keen interest, and the average number of reports per day increased by more than 10 times compared to normal times.

DL E&C also completely revamped its safety report system following the introduction of D-Safe Coin system, focusing on user convenience and simplifying the screen layout to increase intuitiveness. It is also simple to use. Workers can scan QR codes attached to posters, workers’ safety helmets or break rooms all over the site, and then upload the details, such as time, location, content and photos of the site. Both reports and follow-up results can be easily checked via the same platform.

Once a report is submitted to the Safety Report System, it is conveyed to the respective site in real time for the purpose of taking actions, such as stopping work or corrective measures. Notifications are simultaneously sent to the head office and on-site safety manager including site manager, to ensure quick initial responses. The status of reports is collected and accumulated in real time, and both the head office and on-site teams can control the situation at the same time through the bulletin board of the Safety Report System. DL E&C plans to build a system that supports decision-making based on this big data.

Gilpo Lee, the CSO (chief safety and health officer) at DL E&C, said, “For safety measures to be effective, workers’ voluntary participation is a key point. With the introduction of D-Safe Coin, we will prevent risks that could lead to serious accidents, and contribute to the spread of a safety culture.”
