DL E&C announced on the 19th that it has begun intensive management of on-site safety and health in preparation for the upcoming rainy and hot season. DL E&C plans to conduct thorough on-site management, in line with MOEL’s (Ministry of Employment and Labor) designation and operation of June to August as the ‘Special Response Period for Heat Wave, Heavy Rain and Typhoon”.

In particular, DL E&C is implementing ‘Healthy Summer 1.2.3 Campaign’, which contains key management points for each time slot in the afternoon that is vulnerable to heat waves. ▶At 1:00 p.m., a TBM is conducted before beginning afternoon work, in order to check the health condition of workers vulnerable to heat, such as the elderly and those with high blood pressure. ▶At 2:00 p.m., a 30-minute cooling time is provided, allowing workers to take a break at the on-site rest facility, and ▶At 3:00 p.m., the hottest time of the day when concentration is reduced, cool drinks, cool fruit punch and ice cream are provided to spend time with workers.

In addition to implementing the campaign, DL E&C has distributed a guide to preventing heat-related ailment caused by heat waves, on-site safety management rules for heavy rains and typhoons, and self-inspection checklist in order to conduct intensive management. Currently, all sites are conducting self-inspection at least once a week in preparation for hot season, with continuous support and inspections focused on vulnerable sites.

A coffee truck support event is being held at an apartment site in Busan,
which was selected as an excellent site for participation in DL E&C’s safety reporting system.

DL E&C is also making efforts to activate the safety reporting system in which workers directly participate. The safety reporting system allows workers to identify, report and take actions for risk factors on their own, and to participate easily via their smartphones. Particularly during the heatwave period, workers are encouraged to use their ‘right to stop work’ on their own via ‘safety reporting system’ if health hazards arise due to heat-related ailments. Recently, DL E&C selected 4 sites with excellent participation in the Safety Reporting System, and held an event to support coffee trucks. In the second half of the year, DL E&C plans to develop a system that aggregates individual participation in safety activity and provides points which can be converted into cash, in order to further expand workers’ participation in the Safety Reporting System.

Gilpo Lee, DL E&C’s Chief Safety Officer (CSO) said, “Summer is a period with high risks of major accidents, so we are making efforts to inspect, verify and improve even the smallest details at our sites. We are checking drainage plans and collapse prevention measures in preparation for heavy rain, and intensively examining the health management plan for workers during the hot season.”
