- Constructed the world’s largest isoprene latex plant and obtained approval for completion
- Applied its modular construction method for the first time in the foreign country… 1-month shorter construction period than as planned

DL E&C has successfully completed its first EPC project in Singapore, demonstrating its world-class plant technology. DL E&C announced on the 13th that it had successfully finalized the construction of a new plant for Cariflex in Singapore, a subsidiary of DL Chemical, and obtained approval for completion.

This construction is worth approximately USD300 million and is DL E&C’s first EPC project for plant in Singapore. DL E&C overcome difficulties due to strict local regulations and permits, and obtained approval for completion within the promised construction period. In particular, since the acquisition of the plant site in March 2022, DL E&C carried out key process steps, including the construction of the access roads, the commencement of pile driving, and installation of equipment, without a single day of delay.

This project is also the first case of applying DL E&C’s modular construction method to an overseas plant. The modular construction method is a method in which the complicated plant equipment is divided into transportable sizes, worked in a separate manufacturing space and then installed on site. It is effective in reducing the construction period, enhancing quality and preventing safety accidents. DL E&C produced plant modules in Vietnam, transported them by ship, and installed them at the plant site in Jurong Island, Singapore. The modular construction method allowed DL E&C to achieve the process efficiency as well as the early completion, 1-month shorter than as initially planned.

The newly completed plant is the world’s largest isoprene latex plant, and its client is Cariflex, a subsidiary of DL Chemical. Cariflex is the only company in the world to produce isoprene latex using anionic polymerization technology, and ranks first in the global isoprene latex market. Cariflex’s products are popular as materials for high value-added medical supplies, such as surgical gloves and injection caps, owing to their low irritancy, fewer impurities and higher transparency compared to competitors.

An official from DL E&C said, “As this is our first EPC project for plant, we experienced many trials and errors, but we were able to shorten the construction period based on our knowhow and capabilities to carry out projects we have accumulated for many years. We will find the plant markets in and out of the country based on our world-class technology.”
